Match Report

With the beginning of October falling on Sunday the Autumn rain made perfect weather conditions for a game on the Marshes. Boston made a couple of changes with notably with The Gaffer lining up in goal to replace the injured Tom.

From the get-go Boston knew they were in for more of a challenge than previous weeks as the opposition line up was littered with ex Premier Division players that have moved to Eagle and it shown in their early possession.

Boston soaked up the opposition possession and got off to an early lead within
10 mins as a well-worked goal from the defence, to the left, down to the byline was squared to in form Jack S who slotted calmly.

Boston had some good spells of possession in the first half, showing the quick passing play like previous weeks but Eagle stopped most clear cut chances. At 1-0 there was a dubious trip in the Boston box that Eagle screamed for, Boston played to the whistle and launched a counter attack - Jack S got through 1 on 1 but on this occasion (cough*- fluffed it) couldn't provide the finish.

After a lot of pressure and some good but deep defending from the boys in white (playing in our white/off pink strip), Eagle got the equaliser from good play down the right, a half clearance that needed to be saved and then a goal mouth scramble that was finally finished by the Eagle CF.

1-1 at the break.

Boston again started well with a goal not to far in to the second half as Paul R ran onto a pass from the left and neatly finished in the corner of the Eagle net as the on coming keeper began to rush out.

After this it was all Eagle as they controlled the possession of the game which lead to a battle in the Boston half to try and keep out the waves and waves of attacks, much like how Boston ended up holding on to the Division 2 title last season.

Boston did well to not allow any clear cut chances in open play with important interceptions from Grace, brave (and I mean brave as he pretty much headed a top corner-bound rocket of a free kick that made him see stars) defending from Marc and excellent saves and punches from stand in keeper Nathan as shots were fired his way from outside the box.

The Eagle equaliser came with 15 mins to go as a series of corners peppered the Boston goal. The Eagle CB who was a few inches taller than everyone else bullied his way in to the  Boston box and connected with numerous headers as the Boston defender couldn't match the strength and leap with one flying in to the net.

Boston held on until the end with some backs against the ropes defending and could have come away with a late win as Jack H burst through on the left but couldn't get his feet right and scooped it into the keepers path.

All in all a point well deserved through early goals in each half and resolute defending throughout. Boston still unbeaten in the Hackney and Leyton division 1 making it 10 points from a possible 12.
