Match Report

Boston were looking to carry on from the battling performance displayed a week earlier against a very strong Eagles FC. Sunday morning arrived and with it, the 1st test of Nathan's Boston Squad depth.
Notable absences this week included Tom Jackson, Pete Dutton, Chris Grace, Matthew Leung, Jason Skelton, Leigh Hartley and Ricky Price. All players who would walk into the 1st team of any team at the Marshes, so their presences were dearly missed. Again, Nathan deputised in goal for Tom who is still 2 or 3 weeks away from being 100% again.
The game started terribly for Boston. Couldn't get the ball under control, passes going astray and resorting to long balls which kept coming back, the 1st 15 mins were filled with lots of angered communication as everyone tried to lift the effort levels.
Our poor start was compounded by top scorer Jack Slade limping off with a groin injury after 20 mins. Early prognosis is that he may be out for 2 to 3 weeks. Jack was replaced by Kevin, who injected pace into the attack and was looking to take on the defenders everytime he got the ball.
This led to him being targeted by the full backs who were leaving their mark on him with some aggressive challenges. many free kicks were awarded because of said challenges, however the delivery was often too close to the 35-foot-tall keeper or over hit to the back post.
it was Wounded Knee who were creating the better chances, had they a little more quality going forward they may have taken the lead. Unfortunately for them, their opportunities lacked conviction and Nathan could gather most of the danger.
A poor 1st half was ended and the gaffer was not happy at all. Jake was replaced with Michal and the system changed to a 433.
the 2nd half was pretty much 40 mins of Boston attacking but with no real purpose and being wasteful with delivery in the final 3rd.
Another injury occurred with Nathan showing signs of that reoccurring tendon injury and had to be replaced in goal by Berat, with Bobby coming on to lead the line and Paul dropping in to help in midfield.
a few chances came for each team. Wounded Knee won’t thank Berat for tipping the ball on to the post to keep it 0-0 and Carl worked some space for himself before shooting straight at the keeper.
All in all, the game lacked any real quality from either side and 0-0 was probably the score that level of performance deserved.
No game next week but the following week we face another side who came down from the Prem.
Still unbeaten, still have the best defensive record across all four divisions but want to get back to winnings ways quickly!
